Once upon a time, there was a king named Midas who ruled the land of Phrygia. He was known for his love of wealth and gold. One day, the god Dionysus (also known as Bacchus) came to visit him. Impressed by Midas's hospitality, Dionysus offered him a reward and said he could have one wish granted.
Midas, consumed by his desire for riches, asked that everything he touched would turn to gold. Dionysus granted his wish but warned him to be careful what he wished for. Midas was thrilled with his newfound power and began testing it by touching various objects, which instantly turned into solid gold.
At first, Midas was overjoyed by his ability. He touched trees, stones, and even his own belongings, turning everything into gold. However, his happiness soon turned to sorrow when he realized the consequences of his wish. He couldn't hug his loved ones or enjoy a meal without turning them into lifeless golden statues.
Distressed and lonely, Midas realized that his greed had brought him nothing but isolation and sadness. He begged Dionysus to take away his golden touch and free him from the curse.
