How Geirald the Coward was Punished
An Icelandic fairy tale, Andrew Lang included it in 1904's The Brown Fairy Book.
In the enchanted land of Fairy Tail, there lived Geirald, a young man known as a coward. He was ridiculed by the kingdom's brave knights and warriors, fearing everything from spiders to dragons. When a fearsome dragon named Drakonos attacked, Geirald cowered in fear while others fought. However, he spotted a child in danger and rushed to protect them.
After the battle, Geirald felt guilty for not doing more. Surprisingly, his act of bravery spread throughout the kingdom, changing how people saw him. Despite feeling like a coward, Geirald was summoned by King Arthur. Instead of reprimanding him, the king recognized his fear and bravery. He saw potential in Geirald and ordered him to train with the finest warriors.
Geirald embraced the opportunity, facing physical and mental challenges. With perseverance, his skills improved, and he conquered his fears. In a final tournament, Geirald faced Sir Cedric, the strongest warrior. Despite being outmatched, Geirald's determination prevailed, disarming his opponent and winning the battle.
